Exchange Active Sync and iPhone 3G

9 06 2009

Finally got my iPhone all synced up with my:

  1. Email
  2. Contacts
  3. Calendar
  4. Tasks
  5. Notes

No more USB cables, I now have full push notification and synchronisation with my online Exchange account over the mobile network or WLAN.

All I needed was an online exchange account that supported Microsoft’s active sync.  I chose the value for money Sherweb.  Setting up active sync on the iPhone is a breeze with the instructions from Sherweb.  The Email, Contacts and Calendar sync seamlessly.  I can also use Outlook Web Access or a PC with Outlook to access the information as well.

Two well used Exchange/Outlook features that are not provided with the active sync implementation on the iPhone are Tasks and Notes.  This was easily solved by installing the iMExchange application from the app store.
